Google pressures Apple into RCS on the iPhone

In the past few months, Google has been pressuring Apple to implement RCS (Rich Communication Services) on iPhone. RCS (“Rich Communication Services”) is a protocol that allows multiple vendors, like ISPs or phone makers, to develop applications to send and receive messages. Many Android phones have RCS messaging capabilities already.

These issues are possible because of Apple’s continued reliance on SMS/MMS for communications, not via IM. Google contends. Apple’s support of RCS will preempt some problems experienced by Android users messaging iPhone users. Adrienne Lofton, global vice president for integrated platforms marketing, said it is terrible when Android users are accused of breaking conversations.
